She-Wolves and Elizabeth Bathory

Over on the She-Wolf Blogspot, Hannah Priest is doing wonderful work on the representation and cultural importance of the female werewolf, including the publication of She-Wolf: A Cultural History of Female Werewolves (2015).

I really enjoyed the recent guest post by Jazmina Cininas on ‘Elizabeth Bathory – Female Werewolf’. The post highlights a number of very interesting points such as the overlap between werewolves and vampires which has dominated representations of both until relatively recently (well, really until werewolves broke onto the silver screen and learned to fear silver bullets); and, the importance of reclaiming monstrous depictions of women in history.
